The beginning of 2021 will see the official presentations of Azimut 53, the new vessel offered by Azimut, completing the mid-sized flybridge range market segment, a sector in which Azimut Yachts has always excelled with extremely successful products. It is a streamlined vessel, which, in little over 17 metres, hides surprisingly large spaces, perfect for a family wanting to enjoy an extended cruise on board with all the comforts.

The exterior design, with a carefully studied aesthetic, is by Alberto Mancini, who is also continuing researching and working with the shipyard on the most recent Flybridge and S collections. The interiors, elegant and contemporary in style, have been designed by the Azimut Style Department. The objective declared by Azimut is to offer, in the 50-foot segment, a boat that is perfect for a family wanting to organise an extended period on board in comfort.

The solution came by putting together multiple existing solutions that, thanks to their combined effect, created something new, significantly expanding the space on board and how it is perceived. The day area, already a generous size, is laid out almost entirely on a single floor: the kitchen is at the entrance, and the living area is separated by a simple 25 centimetre step.

The airy feeling and the freedom of movement coming from this layout is surprising and is enhanced by the lateral windows that, once past the entrance, run, uninterrupted to the wind screen, with no mounts.  In this way, natural light and the view of the water take centre stage, adding an extra level of pleasure to the stay on board. Storage space, the seat depth, and the kitchen equipment: everything has been studied in minimal detail to guarantee functionality, comfort and durability over time.

The use of the Volvo IPS propulsion system, keeping the barycentre low and reducing the need for space in the engine room, not only reduces the height in the step between the kitchen and living room but also creates a night area that can satisfy every member of the family. The centre of the boat houses the owner suite, where, for the most part the ceiling is full height.

The storage space in the suite is incredible, with a perfectly equipped wardrobe in addition to a second storage column, and half height furniture along the right-hand side of the room, as well as additional space under the bed for storing more cumbersome pieces.

Thanks to a careful study of the design, the lobby also has a space to install a washer-dryer with an ample storage area, without taking space away from the third cabin with twin beds, while the partially vertical bow stem leaves space for a VIP cabin, easy to access, much higher level than the average on the market in terms of storage space and space between the bed and the walls.

In designing the exterior, attention was once again focussed on comfort. With only one connecting staircase to the swimming platform, the L-shaped sofa in the cockpit is extended and deeper in order to make it more comfortable, while access to the exterior storage area (or crew cabin) is directly from the transom. A mobile bar with ice maker and bottle cooler completes the setting.

On the bow and on the flybridge, the cushions on the sun deck are, in shape, thickness and size, a natural temptation for idleness which is difficult to resist. Further along the stern of the fly, the classic dinette area becomes more versatile with the addition of a foldaway table that converts it into a second living room overlooking the sea.

The naval architecture developed by the R & D technical office in Azimut-Benetti together with their choice of using a propulsion system made up of two Volvo Penta IPS 950s, ensures not only more space on board, but also comfort, efficiency and manoeuvrability. The two engines allow for a maximum speed of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27, substantially reducing consumption and noise, and making docking procedures much simpler.
