A violent fire broke out in the early afternoon of Friday 2 October on board the yacht, “Lady Vanilla”, a Feretti from 2002, docked in Marina di Loano. The local fire brigade intervened, and took two hours to put out the flames, which had completely enveloped the 29 metre yacht.
According to preliminary investigation, the fire may have been caused by the overheating of batteries located in the engine room. Sounding the alarm were the sailors and the staff of the tourist port, who immediately alerted the fire brigade. A plume of thick black smoke visible for kilometres rose from the yacht engulfed in flames.
