Chiavari

Chiavari, a beautiful town in the middle of the Tigullio Gulf

Chiavari is one of the best known towns to the east of Genoa, because, in addition to its large tourist port and beach facilities, it has a very mild climate which transforms it into a resort destination even in the colder months.  The small city in the province of Genoa is located in the Tigullio Gulf. Its centre is full of decorated noble houses, with modern boutiques, next to artisan shops, still working in the ancient traditions of ‘sedie campanino’ and ‘pizzo macramé’.

Visiting Chiavari

From a cultural point of view, the centre of Chiavari has the Santuario di Nostra Signora dell’Orto, a Nineteenth-century cathedral and the Parish church of San Giovanni Battista, home to canvases by Piola, Fiasella, and De Ferrari, as well as the Church of San Francesco, built in the 1200s and restored in 1630, now used for cultural events. Chiavari is an important boating centre for the Tigullio area, both because of its tourist port, which can accommodate boats of all sizes, and for its ancient seafaring tradition. It has many shipyards, repair yards, storage and construction facilities, as well as numerous artisans specialised in woodworking and fibreglass, guaranteeing the high standard of their work. The city is also a loading port for a number of organised cruises and local charter businesses.
