The USS Mount Whitney, belonging to the US Navy, stopped for repairs and planned maintenance for a few weeks off the coast of Genoa, before returning to Gaeta, where it is based.

The USS Mount Whitney arrived in Genoa on 27 August to undergo maintenance work by the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard, which has already worked on the flagship of the Sixth Fleet in the past, like in December 2020 when the ship was in Genoa for other work.

While it was in Genoa, we photographed the USS Mount Whitney, one of the Blue Ridge amphibious class command ships belonging to the United States Navy. The USS Mount Whitney, which left the Ligurian capital a few days ago, also works as a floating command platform for NATO support and attack vessels.

The ship, built by Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, is 189 metres long, has a maximum beam of 33 metres and was launched on 8 January 1970.
